NUTRIEN Sales Series 2-YO FINALS (2024)

Whilst much has been written about debut stallion POSTER BOY having three (3) through into this weekend's NUTRIEN 2-YO Colts & Geldings Sales Series FINAL at Melton, to consider this race in isolation only serves to overlook an even more amazing statistic -- namely the domination of Somebeachsomewhere-line stallions in these 2-YO ranks!  Of the twenty-six (26) finalists across both the Colts & Fillies Divisions (incl. emergencies and scratchings), a staggering 42% (i.e. 11) were sired by sons of SOMEBEACHSOMEWHERE.

The siring credits for this year's NUTRIEN 2-YO Series are actually as follows ... with the stallion's total Australian crop size for the 2021/2022 season shown in parentheses:

• STAY HUNGRY:  5 finalists  (46)  ##
• BETTORS DELIGHT:  4 finalists  (68)
• CAPTAINTREACHEROUS:  3 finalists  (50)
• POSTER BOY:  3 finalists  (73)
• ART MAJOR:  2 finalists  (114)

... with one each to Always B Miki / American Ideal / Betting Line / Captain Crunch / McWicked / Rock N Roll Heaven / Soho Tribeca / Sweet Lou / and The Storm Inside.

## It is worth stressing that these 5 STAY HUNGRY finalists come from a draft of just 19 foals as were presented through the NUTRIEN Sale Rings in 2023.

When we look to the Broodmare Sire side of these finalists, we yet again see Bettors Delight standing head and shoulders above all the rest.  The BMS credits are:

• Bettors Delight:  7
• Art Major:  3
• Christian Cullen:  3
• Mach Three:  2
• Rocknroll Hanover:  2
• Well Said:  2

... with one each to Betterthancheddar / Courage Under Fire / Life Sign / McArdle / Rock N Roll Heaven / Somebeachsomewhere / and Sportswriter.

And, in terms of Golden Crosses - based on this sample - the standouts are:

• U7 over a U66 mare - as represented by Art Major and/or Captaintreacherous over a Bettors Delight mare (= Wazza / Apollo Storm / Crusader Miss / and Miss Australian) 
• U1 over a U66 mare - as represented by Stay Hungry over a Bettors Delight mare (= London Baby / and Go Without)

and, of course, the most aureus of them all

• U66 over a N1 mare - namely Bettors Delight over a Christian Cullen mare (= Galaxy Lass and Sensationalize)

Of these twenty-six 'finalists', we find that:

• 12 came out of the Nutrien SYDNEY Sale
•  9 came out of the Nutrien MELBOURNE Sale 
•  4 from the Nutrien Sunshine Stars GOLD COAST Sale   and
•  1 from the Nutrien BATHURST Sale

And, as for 'Sale Prices', it may come as a surprise to some to learn that you don't necessarily have to 'spend big' in order to have a crack at these $250,000 Sales Finals.  Indeed, 50% of the assembled fields were 'knocked down' for $30K or less!  The average sale price of these 2-YO Finalists was $41,885, with a median price of $33,750.
